Mott's Fruitsations Freezies
July 10, 2009 0 CommentsIt's finally summer here in Canada, and especially in Toronto,
the good old sweltering heat is starting to hit - and it's hard to
remember about how much we complained about the cold and snow just
a few short months ago. Added to that, this summer we are dealing
with a garbage strike in the city - so add stinky to the equation
and it makes for a particularly unpleasant few weeks here in the
Dot. In an effort to try to rekindle the romantic feelings towards
the summer heat, and to try to recreate a childhood memory, this
post is all about the ubiquitious summer treat, no, not popsicles,
not sno-cones, but the humble freezie.
Perhaps you all may remember the good old freezies that they used
to sell at the convenience stores for about 25 cents. Long, plastic
tubes filled with delicious frozen sugar water, available in an
assortment of zany flavours and colours! I believe you can still
get them today - if you find the right vendor. It wasn't so much
the taste of them that was the draw, they were appealing because of
their portability. Since summers never lasted long enough, it was
always important to get out of the store, and back to the
playground/neighbour's yard/local pool than to have to actually
STOP somewhere and eat anything for more than 30 seconds.
Some of my happiest childhood memories are of pedaling to the store
on my super nifty banana-seat blue bike, and buying the delicious
summer treat. My favourites back then were the Grape (purple),
Cream Soda (white) or Blue Flavour - what was that flavour?! They
weren't even necessarily that GREAT tasting, so much as it was fun
to have an icy snack you could eat while biking around.
Well Mott's has made a new fruity, non-food-colouring based,
awesome version of this childhood favourite. It is made with real
fruit, sweetened with honey, and comes in a variety of delicious
flavours - while typing this, I am currently having a "Summer
strawberry" freezie. It is made with 100% real fruit juice, so it's
way better than it's wacky coloured predecessors and I can assure
you that both kids and adults alike will love this stuff. And - as
our lives have turned out to be infinitely more complicated than we
could have ever imagined compared to our childhood - it is still
packaged in the tried and true plastic tube format which allows it
to be portable!
So go ahead and hit up your local grocery store for your own bag of
these Mott's goodies - and let this guilt-free, fun snack bring
summer home.
